The OU campus in Norman will cease normal operations for the opening game of OU football

NORMAN, Okla. (KFOR) – Oklahoma University announced Monday that Oklahoma football will open the 2024 season by hosting Temple University on Friday, August 30. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.

OU officials have confirmed that the university is making adjustments to academic and campus operations in preparation for the game and to accommodate traffic, parking and game day safety measures.

OU has released a list of “academic and campus operations” that will be closed as follows:

  • Courses on the Norman Campus: Classes on the Norman campus, which are normally held in person, will be cancelled for Friday, August 30.

  • Courses at OU Health Sciences in Oklahoma City, OU-Tulsa or in the OU online programs: Regular classes will continue.

  • Employee work schedulesNorman Campus: Only essential employees should report to campus and follow their game day schedules. For all other employees: no remote work; eligible employees will be placed on administrative leave. Please contact your supervisor if you are unsure about your work schedule.

  • OU Health Sciences and OU Tulsa: Employees follow their regular working hours.

  • Parking, CART Shuttles and Road ClosuresParking: As on a normal game day, certain parking spaces on campus must be vacated by 6:00 p.m. Thursday, August 29. Parking spaces designated for on-campus housing will remain accessible to students with residential permits. Commuter permits are valid in all paid parking spaces on game days.

  • CART shuttles: On Friday, August 30, CART will operate its game day shuttle route. Regular CART routes/shuttles will not be operating.

  • Road closures: To ensure efficient traffic flow and pedestrian safety, certain roads near campus will be closed or restricted. More information will be available closer to game day.

  • Building access and operationExcept for the facilities listed below, all non-game related buildings on the Norman campus will be closed following the conclusion of normal academic operations on Thursday, August 29, and will reopen on Tuesday, September 3, after Labor Day.Bizzell Memorial Library: The library operates according to the usual schedule. Opening hours can be found at libraries.ou.edu/hoursOklahoma Memorial Union: The service operates according to the normal timetable.Eating on campus: Operating hours are normal. For current information on dining options on the Norman campus, visit ou.edu/housingandfood.

  • The OU Norman campus will resume normal operations, including regular class and work schedules, on Tuesday, September 3, after the Labor Day holiday.

  • OU Health Sciences in Oklahoma City and the OU Tulsa campus will operate on regular schedules.

Further details regarding game operations that day, including tailgating policies, will be announced at a later date, according to OU.
