Malvern cowboy recovers after wagon race accident | KLRT

MALVERN, Arkansas – A Central Arkansas cowboy is recovering from a tragic accident at a competition last month.

Dante Reed spent nearly a week in the hospital after falling during a chuckwagon race at Whiskey Ridge Ranch in Malvern.

Reed was hospitalized with multiple brain hemorrhages, a broken collarbone and a facial fracture.

“I had to be resuscitated twice and had two seizures,” Reed said. “After that, I barely knew my name.”

The accident occurred on May 26. Just weeks later, Reed said he was happy to be alive and able to walk and talk. His doctor advised him to wear a sling.

“I woke up this morning. Maybe in pain, but I woke up this morning,” Reed said, expressing his grace.

But despite the pain, this cowboy says he can’t stay down for long. He’s a new father and runs his own business, Rolling Sevens Performance Horses.

“When you’re self-employed, you have to keep going,” Reed said. “If you slow down, everything slows down.”

He says this wasn’t his first accident, but it was definitely his worst. Reed says horseback riding is dangerous and “you have to be at peace with God in this sport.”

“He showed me so quickly how quickly everything can be over,” Reed said.

Reed says this accident reminded him to enjoy every moment of life.

“You just have to take it second by second,” Reed said. “I’m not saying minute, because you may not get the next minute.”
