14-year-old dies after UTV accident on Saturday

West Mead Twp, Pa. (WJET/WFXP) — A 14-year-old has died following a UTV accident in Crawford County Saturday morning.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, the accident occurred around 10:15 a.m. Saturday along Shartle Road near the intersection with Leslie Road in West Mead Township.


When police arrived, they found a juvenile on the street with serious injuries. Life-saving measures were performed and he was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation, which is ongoing, revealed four juveniles were traveling west on Shartle Road in a 2017 Polaris UTV. The driver began making a left turn when the UTV flipped onto its side and rolled onto the passenger side, ejecting the passenger, who was later pronounced dead.

The UTV then turned 180 degrees and left the road. The UTV came to rest in a ditch on the north side of the roadway.

One passenger suffered minor injuries but was not taken to hospital and no other injuries were reported.

Pennsylvania State Police Meadville continues to investigate the fatal accident.
