Investigation underway after an NFPD officer fired shots while responding to a call

NIAGARA FALLS, NY (WKBW) — An investigation is ongoing after a Niagara Falls police officer fired four shots while responding to a call on Sunday.

The incident occurred around 9:40 a.m. in the 1900 block of Niagara Street. Police said officers responded to a call about a person with a gun. The report said a woman was in the area and displayed what appeared to be a gun.

According to police, when officers arrived, they encountered the woman allegedly holding what appeared to be a black handgun. Officers ordered the woman to drop the weapon, but she allegedly pointed it at one of the officers, who then fired four shots at her.

According to police, the woman was not hit or injured by the gunfire. She dropped the weapon and was taken into custody. The weapon the woman displayed was determined to be a pellet gun and she was charged with second-degree menacing.

“The Niagara Falls Police Department Criminal Investigation Division and the Office of Professional Standards arrived at the scene and their investigation is ongoing. The officer who fired the shots had his body camera activated during the incident. The officer was not injured during the incident,” a press release said.
