Police pursue Gwinnett County: Officers from Atlanta, Georgia, pursue hijacked bus on I-85 into DeKalb County

ATLANTA– Atlanta police were pursuing a hijacked public bus Tuesday afternoon after a fight broke out and the driver of the vehicle fled the scene, WSB reported.

The incident began at 45 Ivan Allen Jr. Boulevard. Numerous Atlanta police officers engaged in a chase with the Gwinnett County Transit bus behind Spaghetti Junction.

At one point, all lanes of Interstate 85 were closed while officers tried to find a way to stop the bus.

The bus eventually turned onto Jimmy Carter Boulevard after police officers threw spike strips over the bus, apparently rendering the tires unusable.

It is unclear whether anyone on the bus was armed or whether anyone was injured.

Numerous police surrounded the bus after it turned onto Hugh Howell Road in DeKalb County. A SWAT vehicle appears to be parked directly in front of it. The Georgia State Patrol, DeKalb County Police and Atlanta Police all responded to the incident.

It is unclear whether the bus driver was in control or whether someone else was driving.

The suspect, whose identity has not yet been established, was arrested.

All lanes of I-85 have now reopened.
