Police in Arlington, Texas, release video of police shooting – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

Arlington police will release video on Tuesday of a confrontation between police and an armed man who they say fired at officers after a welfare call.

Arlington police said Monday they plan to release edited video footage of the May 20 shooting from dashboard and body cameras.

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones is expected to present the video and answer questions around noon. A live video of the press conference will appear in the story at the top of this page.

Last month, police were called to a home on Shady Valley Drive where a family said they were concerned after an argument with another family member about drug use. The person left the home and spoke to police but was released because they had not committed a crime.

Shortly after speaking with officers, Arlington police said an attempted robbery had been reported in the neighborhood and that the robber matched the description of the man from the 911 call. Another 911 call revealed that the man had come home, fired a gun several times, and taken a truck. Police said the man fired at officers through the truck’s windshield and then collided with another vehicle. The armed man ran from the truck and was stopped by police outside a home, where he was shot at least once.

Arlington police identified the suspect Monday as 20-year-old Austin Taylor. Police said Taylor has been released from the hospital and faces multiple charges. Taylor was booked into the Tarrant County Jail, where he is being held on $275,000 bail. It is not clear if he has an attorney to speak on his behalf.

Police said Monday that both criminal and administrative investigations into the shooting were ongoing.
