Salsa in the Park returns to Delaware Park on Monday

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Jerome Williams has moved his dancing feet to the rhythm of his entire life.

He and Salsa in the Park founder Sarah Haykel are getting back into the swing of things and spending the next six Monday evenings teaching salsa.

“I say salsa or dancing is a metaphor for life,” Haykel said. “Everything we learn to be great dancers on the dance floor, we can apply to any relationship, any aspect of our lives, to have better, healthier relationships and just enjoy life and have more fun.”

Salsa in the Park has been taking place for 11 years in the Rose Gardens at Delaware Park in Buffalo. Although their instructors have been doing this for many years, no prior experience is necessary to jump in and join the fun.

“You can be a complete beginner. We take everyone. Just come and have fun with us,” Haykel said. “Have an open mind and heart, learn something new and you will be with such a diverse group of people. »

On average, 60-70 people put on their dancing shoes and encourage everyone to try it.

“You’ll end up enjoying it more than you think, I feel like, because people often think it’s harder than it actually is and if you really take your time and be patient with yourself, just have fun. The main thing is to have fun,” Williams said.
