Queensbury Theater Announces ‘Wizard of Oz’ Casting in West Houston

We’re off to see the wizard – in West Houston.

City Center’s Queensbury Theater has announced its casting for “The Wizard of Oz,” led by several Houston favorites. The Chronicle has the exclusive announcement.

Holland Vavra, currently on stage in “Newsies” at Theater Under the Stars, will wave his wand as Glinda. Vavra played the role of Louse in Stages’ recent production of “Always, Patsy Cline” and starred in the TUTS productions of “Pippin” and “Xanadu.” She also presented a Valentine’s Day solo exhibition, “LOVE, Holland (Vavra – not the country)”, at the Hobby Center.

Sarah Sachi stars as Dorothy, the girl who just wants to go home. Sachi recently starred in Stages’ ‘Laughs in Spanish’ and appeared in TUTS productions of ‘Rent’ and ‘Cinderella’. Austin Colburn, who plays Scarecrow, starred in “Spring Awakening” at TUTS.

The cast of “The Wizard of Oz” also includes Kaleb Womack as the Tin Man, Marco Camacho as the Cowardly Lion and Tyler Lewis as Almira Gulch, better known as the Wicked Witch of ballast.

The Queensbury Theater was formerly known as the Country Playhouse and was founded in 1956. It moved to its current facilities in 2015, which include a 250-seat proscenium and a 100-seat black box theater.
