Nolan Gorman beats the Orioles 3-1 and hits a home run in a game suspended overnight due to rain

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Nolan Gorman hit a home run and drove in all three St. Louis runs and Lance Lynn pitched six solid innings to help the Cardinals to a 3-1 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday afternoon.

The game was suspended due to rain after a 91-minute delay Tuesday night as the teams were tied 1-1 midway through the sixth inning.

Lynn (2-2) allowed one unearned run on two hits and threw five strikeouts while pitching six innings for the first time since April 16 in Oakland after throwing seven innings.

“It’s different,” Lynn said of the win the day after his pitch. “I threw the ball well last night. I was in a good place to keep going, but the rain said otherwise.”

Andrew Kittredge and JoJo Romero combined to pitch two innings of scoreless relief. Ryan Helsley threw out the ninth pitch for his 15th save to tie Guardians pitcher Emmanuel Clase for the major league lead.

Jacob Webb (0-3) walked Alec Burleson in the sixth inning, and Gorman hit his eighth home run of the season against left-handed reliever Keegan Akin to give St. Louis a 3-1 lead.

“Great left-to-left home run,” Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said. “He took a really nice swing to put us ahead and then our bullpen finished the game phenomenally. JoJo did his job, Kittredge and Helsley closed the door. It was a really good start yesterday which gave us a chance to win today.”

Kyle Bradish allowed one run on four hits in five innings. He crossed out six.

“We had three hits,” Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said. “It’s hard to win when you only have three goals.”

The Orioles took advantage of an error early in the fifth inning to tie the game at 1-1. Kyle Stowers reached base on a ball that bounced off Gorman’s glove on an error and scored on a double by Jorge Mateo to left field.

Masyn Winn extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a double down the right field line in the bottom of the fourth.

Gorman hit an RBI double to center field that bounced off Mateo’s glove on the warning track, giving St. Louis a 1-0 lead in the second.
