One woman died and another was injured in a shooting in Uniontown on Sunday evening.

Uniontown police have charged 21-year-old Andrew Maurice Howard of Uniontown with murder, aggravated assault and prohibited possession of a firearm. According to court records, Howard is currently hospitalized with a gunshot wound and has not been charged.

Police were called to the Something Different bar at 56 Austin St. around 9:30 p.m. Sunday. Charging documents accuse Howard of shooting both Shaquisa Sims and Jasmine Johnson.

Sims, 32, of Uniontown, was taken to WVU Medicine Uniontown Hospital, where she was pronounced dead about an hour later, according to Fayette County Coroner Bob Baker. Baker said in a Facebook post that Sims died from injuries sustained from a gunshot wound and that her death was ruled a homicide.

Witnesses identified Howard as the shooter. Johnson, 29, suffered a gunshot wound to his left wrist. Court documents describe Johnson as Howard’s girlfriend. Police recovered three 9mm shell casings from the scene.

Howard initially fled the scene on foot, but later arrived at Uniontown Hospital with a gunshot wound. Uniontown Police Public Information Officer Tom Kolencik said it is not clear at this time how Howard was shot.

Howard is also charged with simple assault, reckless endangerment and possession of a criminal weapon.
