Man hit and killed while riding scooter in Huntington

HUNTINGTON COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) – A man was struck and killed by a pickup truck while crossing the street on his scooter in Huntington Saturday evening.

A news release from the Huntington County coroner said Wayne M. Hamlin, 68, of Huntington, was struck by a pickup truck while crossing Warren Street in downtown Huntington on his electric scooter just before 8 p.m.


Initial investigation revealed that Hamlin was at the intersection of Warren Street and Washington Street when he was struck by a northbound pickup truck.

First responders from the Huntington City Fire Department arrived at the scene and transported Hamlin to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. He later died from his injuries. The medical examiner identified the cause of death as blunt force injuries, with the manner of death being an accident.

The driver of the pickup, later identified as William McKinzie, was not injured in the accident.

The crash remains under investigation.
