ITV pundit Nadia Nadim leaves the show after her mother was killed in a road accident

World Cup expert Nadia Nadim revealed she was forced to quit the broadcast on Tuesday after learning her mother had been hit and killed by a truck.

Former Manchester City striker Nadim was part of ITV’s coverage of the goalless draw between Denmark and Tunisia this afternoon.

But the 34-year-old Denmark international was not on the panel at the final whistle, with presenter Mark Pougatch telling viewers she had been forced to leave the game.

On Wednesday, Nadim revealed the tragic news on Twitter.

She said: “(On) Tuesday morning my mother was killed by a truck. She was on her way back from the gym.

“Words cannot describe what I feel. I lost the most important person in my life and it happened so suddenly and unexpectedly. She was only 57.

“She was a warrior who fought for every inch of her life.

“She gave me life not once but twice and everything I/we are is because of her.

“I have lost my home and know that nothing will feel the same again. Life is unfair and I don’t understand why her and why so. I love you and will see you again.”

An ITV spokesman said: “Everyone at ITV, those working with Nadia in Qatar and the wider company are deeply shocked and saddened by this tragic news.”

“We have offered Nadia our support and our thoughts are with her and those closest to her at this incredibly difficult time.”
