Favored GOP candidate from Minnesota suspends House candidacy to support Trump campaign

Tayler Rahm, a Republican congressional candidate in Minnesota, is expected to end his campaign for a House seat in the coming days to lead the campaign of presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump in the state, a new report shows.

Rahm will put his campaign on hold before the Republican primaries in mid-August, the Star-Tribune reported Saturday, just two days before the Republican National Convention in neighboring Wisconsin.

“Tayler Rahm’s impressive victory at the county convention reflects his ability to harness the grassroots energy needed to return President Trump to the White House,” Brian Hughes, senior adviser to Trump’s campaign, said in a statement to the Star-Tribune.

Rahm raised less money than his Republican rival, former federal prosecutor Joe Teirab, but was supported by the Republican Party in the race and was considered the favorite.

The former lawyer turned political newbie will immediately change his responsibilities and join Blake Paulson, former district representative for Rep. Tom Emmers (R-MN), as state director.

“Tayler and Blake have incredible connections to the Republican Party base and will be of tremendous importance to President Trump as he works to deliver a historic victory in Minnesota in November,” Hughes said.

The Trump camp’s increasing focus on Minnesota follows his visit in May.
