Red Bull F1 News: FIA announces penalty after incident with Lando Norris

Red Bull was given an FIA penalty after one of their cars was involved in a near-collision with McLaren’s Lando Norris.

The incident occurred during FP1 session on Friday at Silverstone ahead of the British Grand Prix on Sunday and just a few days after Norris and Red Bull star Max Verstappen collided at the Austrian Grand Prix.

Norris would have had two collisions with his Red Bull within a matter of days if the McLaren driver had not reacted so quickly and was forced to take evasive action when he threatened to collide with the rear of Isack Hadjar’s car at full speed.

Norris locked his wheels and had to swerve onto the grass, while Hadjar, the drives in FP1 instead of Sergio Perezraised his hand apologetically.

However, this apology was not enough for the FIA, as the sport’s governing body summoned both Hadjar and the team to the stewards’ room after the session.

Ultimately, Hadjar received a warning, while Red Bull had to pay a fine of 20,000 euros.

An FIA document on the matter states: “The Stewards have interviewed the driver of Car 37 (Isack Hadjar), the driver of Car 4 (Lando Norris) and team representatives and reviewed video footage, team radio and video footage from the car.”

“It was obvious that the driver was not given timely and adequate warning of the approach of car 4. The driver of car 4 had to brake hard and leave the track to avoid a collision. The team of car 37 admitted that they had not given their driver the necessary advice.

“The Stewards note that the penalty imposed on the competitor is higher than that imposed for any other obstruction incident in this session. This is because this incident was considered to be more serious.”
