Tracking heat, humidity and isolated rain/storms over the weekend

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – Our streak of hot and humid weather conditions continues through the weekend. The only relief from the heat will be rain, which should be a little more scattered today… and that trend will continue all weekend and into next week.

Speaking of today, we are tracking a front that will arrive later today. This system will increase our rains a little and they will be a little more scattered. Temperatures will remain hot, around 35 degrees under partly to mostly cloudy skies. Heat index values will climb back up to over 38 degrees. Lows will be around 21 degrees, with lots of clouds and persistent rain showers.

If you work outside or plan to be outdoors on the weekend, remember to hydrate, drink, and rehydrate! H2O and sunscreen are good friends to always have nearby!

As we head into the weekend and early next week, the weather pattern seems to remain fairly consistent, thanks to the aforementioned delay at the borders.

Highs will remain in the 35-40s Celsius range with a mix of sun and clouds. Humid weather will be a feature of the day, with the possibility of isolated showers and thunderstorms. While it’s definitely not going to be a washout, have a rain backup plan in place if you’re planning on spending time outdoors this weekend. Lows overnight will also be in the 21s Celsius range.

Check out the latest live and local weather data below, streamed on WSFA Weather Now! Please note that this stream does not contain live severe weather coverage, only data on the latest weather conditions.

With no major changes in the weather pattern expected, next week will be – you guessed it – hot and humid. Highs will drop a little to below 35 degrees, but humidity will remain high. There will be a chance of scattered rain and thunderstorms each day, which is fairly typical for summer. Overnight lows will be mild to warm, above 21 degrees.

Following in the footsteps of the tropics: Hurricane Beryl is likely to make landfall on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula on Friday as a Category 2 hurricane. It is expected to dump copious amounts of rain and destructive wind gusts along the peninsula.

From there, Beryl is expected to enter the southwestern Gulf of Mexico over the weekend and then move toward the Mexico-Texas border, likely as a strong tropical storm or Category 1 hurricane.

Direct impacts to Alabama are highly unlikely, but we will continue to monitor the situation closely. Indirect impacts include a high risk of surf and rip currents on beaches in Alabama and the Florida Panhandle this weekend and early next week.

This year’s hurricane season is already off to a historic start and we expect it to keep us busy for the next few months. We’ll be keeping an eye on it!
