VASSALBORO – Steven K. Houston

Born to John and Marjorie (Tournier) Houston on February 17, 1952 in Portland, Steven was a lifelong resident of Vassalboro.

He attended the University of Maine at Farmington where he received his bachelor’s degree and began his teaching career in Virginia before returning to Maine and teaching in Pittsfield, followed by work in computer science.

Steve’s passion was the family blueberry farm, Sunnyside Farms. He spent his free time on the property and worked to improve the land. He was a jack of all trades and always teaching those around him. He loved outdoor activities like fishing and hunting. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited, Trout Unlimited, Sierra Club, Ruffed Grouse Society and Pheasants Forever. He was a member of the Planetary Society since 1982. He was also a member of the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association. Her greatest joy was raising her children and spending time with them at her favorite place: camp.

Steven was predeceased by his parents John and Marjorie; as well as his brother, John.

His memory and legend will live on in his surviving family. Steve is survived by his wife, Julie; and his two children, Kelsey and Matthew. He is also survived by his brothers Samuel, his wife Gloria and their children Elysia and Samantha; and David, his wife Bonny and their children Christopher, Vanessa and family.

Steven Houston will be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. His legacy will live on in his family and in the land he nurtured his entire life.

Per Steven’s wishes, no celebration of life will take place. A burial will take place later this summer in Bucksport on the family plot at Moulton Cemetery.
