Pune police: Attempts to prove father’s driver was driving a Porsche | Latest news from India

City police commissioner Amitesh Kumar claimed that the Pune Porsche case does not depend on the accused’s blood test alone. He said on Friday that they have video footage of the 17-year-old boy drinking alcohol in a pub. The Pune top cop said the police are investigating whether the accused’s father’s driver was under pressure to take the blame for the accident.

Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said he had ordered an investigation after allegations emerged that the relatives of the man who died in the accident were threatened at the Yerawada police station. (HT)

The boy, who currently lives in a youth home, is accused of accidentally mowing down and killing two technicians with his luxury car.

“We have the video footage of him drinking alcohol in the pub… The reason is that our case is not the only one based on the blood test; we have other evidence too. He (the minor accused) was in his right mind. It was not that everyone was so drunk that they did not understand anything. They were fully aware that such an incident had happened because of their behaviour,” he told an ANI reporter.

However, he denied reports that the boy was given pizza at the police station.

Kumar said police were investigating whether the driver was persuaded to change his statement.

“It is true that the driver said at the beginning that he was driving the car… We are also investigating this part… under whose pressure the driver made this statement,” he added.

Amitesh Kumar said police were investigating allegations of preferential treatment against the teenager.

He was responding to allegations that police had delayed taking blood samples from the teenager, whose father is a wealthy real estate agent in the Maharashtra city.

The juvenile court had granted the teenager bail and ordered him to write an essay on road safety as punishment. After nationwide outrage, bail was revoked and he was sent to a juvenile detention center.

Police have arrested the defendant’s father and the owners of two bars that served alcohol to the teenager.

The driver of the accused’s father has told the police that he called the police to inform them that his son insisted on driving the car, but the Pune-based real estate agent instructed the driver to let him drive the car.
