Buffalo shoplifter who threatened guards pleads guilty

A shoplifter who threatened two security guards at a Walden Galleria store with a knife last Thanksgiving weekend has pleaded guilty to third-degree theft, a class D felony, prosecutors said Erie County Acting Officer Michael J. Keane.

Hector L. Colon, 47, of Buffalo, faces a maximum sentence of seven years in prison when he returns for sentencing Aug. 7 before Judge Kenneth in Erie County Court. He was released on his own recognizance.

According to prosecutors, Colon stole two boxes of perfume worth $330 from a department store at Cheektowaga Mall around 4:15 p.m. on Nov. 25.

After leaving the store without paying for the items, he was confronted by store security, pulled out a pocket knife and fled. He was arrested nearby with the merchandise a short time later by Cheektowaga police.
