Maersk reports a fire incident on a ship near the

Maersk said on Friday that a fire had broken out on one of its charter vessels en route from Mundra off the west coast of India to Colombo in Sri Lanka.

Local media reported that the fire was caused by a short circuit that resulted in explosions. A Filipino sailor died. There were also 21 crew members on board.

In an email, the company said the ship was in stable condition.

A statement said: “At this time we cannot confirm the extent of the impact of the fire.”

Maersk reported that the fire broke out at around 2:30 p.m. local time. The ship’s crew fought the fire with the support of Indian authorities.
