Sacramento police arrest a man suspected of stealing a fire truck

A 32-year-old man suspected of stealing a Sacramento Fire Department pickup truck Saturday night was arrested after police fired pepper balls into the vehicle during a standoff in north Sacramento, police said. Police said the Ford F-150 was reported stolen from the Sacramento Fire Department Station 12 on 24th Street in the South Land Park area around 8:39 p.m. The truck is being used by the Sac Fire EMS captain, fire officials said. With the help of a police helicopter, officers located the vehicle near R Street and 30th Street, police said. When the driver failed to yield, police began a pursuit and then used spike strips and a PIT maneuver to stop the suspect, police said. At 9:43 p.m., the vehicle became disabled near Fairfield Street and Calvados Avenue in north Sacramento, police said. However, according to police, the suspect in the vehicle did not follow commands. Officers threw pepper balls into the truck’s cab. The suspect exited the vehicle and was safely taken into custody, police said. Police said around 10:20 p.m. that the person was taken into custody. “If you try to steal one of our vehicles, you know that we are tracking it, we know the speeds, we know the brake pressure and we know exactly where that vehicle is in real time, then we will find you.” “We will utilize our partners at Sac PD to locate you,” said Justin Sylvia with Sacramento Fire.
