Man shot in torso in Rio Linda, sheriff says; Active investigations underway

RIO LINDA – An investigation is underway after a shooting left one person injured late Monday morning in Sacramento County.

It happened along the 7500 block of Bergen Way in Rio Linda Township.

According to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, officers responded to the scene just before 10:30 a.m. and found a man who had been shot in the upper body.

CBS13 spoke with a neighbor who said she called 911 after hearing two gunshots and then a man screaming for help.

Cindy Harrison, who lives across the street from the man who was shot, said she went outside and saw him in the middle of the street. What she didn’t realize, she said, was that the man was her neighbor until she got closer and saw he was bleeding.

“I didn’t know he was shot or where he was shot. I could see blood coming from the lower left side of his back,” Harrison said.

She said she called police and other neighbors came to help. At one point, she said, she pulled out towels so neighbors could apply pressure to the gunshot wound.

Their surveillance camera captured audio of the incident, including the man’s vehicle stopping in front of his home, screaming, two gunshots and then the man’s cries for help.

Harrison said he remained conscious while she spoke to him and waited for police. She said the neighbor told her he saw someone on his security camera at his house and ran home to check things out.

The man was taken to hospital and is expected to survive.

What exactly led to the shooting is under investigation.
