Punjab forester suspended for fake caste certificate

The Punjab government under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has a zero-tolerance policy towards abuse of office.

In this context, Minister for Forest and Wildlife Conservation Lal Chand Kataruchak ordered an inquiry against Gulab Singh, forester in the office of the Divisional Forest Officer at Sri Amritsar Sahib, following which Financial Commissioner (Forest) Krishan Kumar resigned from the service.

It is noteworthy that it has come to the attention of the Forest and Wildlife Conservation Department that Gulab Singh, a forester attached to the office of the District Forest Officer, Sri Amritsar Sahib, belongs to the ‘General’ category but is performing his duties in the department on the basis of a fake ‘SC’ category certificate.

The case was investigated by Forest Officer Sri Muktsar Sahib and the preliminary investigation revealed that the allegations were justified and therefore Gulab Singh was suspended with immediate effect.

His headquarters was fixed as the office of the Divisional Forest Officer at Gurdaspur. The regular inquiry against the said employee was initiated separately.
