Ohio ranks 3rd on USPS national dog attack list for 2023 – WHIO TV 7 and WHIO Radio

DAYTON – The United States Postal Service has released its annual dog bite rankings.

Ohio ranked third in the number of dog bites and attacks on mail carriers in 2023, behind Texas and California.

According to the USPS, there were 359 dog bite incidents in Ohio in 2023. In 2022, there were 311.

“Mail carriers face potential dangers every day, and none are as dangerous as an encounter with dogs. It only takes one encounter for a mail carrier to potentially become injured,” said Leeann Theriault, USPS manager of employee safety and health awareness.

There were 23 dog bite incidents in Dayton, 38 in Cincinnati and 33 in Columbus.

The city with the most dog bite incidents was Los Angeles (65).
