Kevin Spacey has been sued in the Supreme Court by an actor for post-traumatic stress disorder which he claims was caused by the American beauty star “sexually assaulting” him

  • Spacey was acquitted of nine sexual offenses at Southwark Crown Court in 2023

Kevin Spacey is reportedly being sued by a young actor who says he was the victim of “sexual assault and emotional abuse” after meeting American beauty star The Old Vic.

The alleged victim claims he was sexually abused by Spacey after the two-time Oscar winner invited the young man to his Waterloo apartment to discuss his career.

Last July, the 64-year-old fallen star was found not guilty at Southwark Crown Court of nine sexual offenses committed against him between 2004 and 2013 by four men aged between 20 and 30.

The young actor, who said the incident occurred in 2008, was one of the men involved in the case and had accused Spacey of sexually assaulting him.

However, court documents released yesterday showed that the young actor, who was in his 20s at the time of the alleged assault, had reportedly filed a civil claim for damages in the Supreme Court.

The alleged victim, who met Spacey while performing at London’s Threatre, is seeking compensation for post-traumatic stress disorder. He said symptoms include severe depressive mood disorder and panic attacks.

The young actor, who was in his 20s at the time of the alleged assault, also said he is now suffering from a loss of confidence and self-esteem.

In court documents seen by The Times, Spacey, who worked as artistic director of the Old Vic from 2003 to 2015, was described as an “influential figure and a world-famous actor and star in his late 40s” at the time.

Spacey reportedly agrees that he met the young actor, adding that after getting his consent, he “performed oral sex on him.” He rejected claims that the young man was sleeping or was in any way “incapacitated”.

The well-known actor argued the abuse allegations were “untrue and dishonest,” adding that phone records showed the couple had kept in touch for several months.

The alleged victim filed the lawsuit in 2022, but it was put on hold while Spacey’s high-profile trial took place in London before he was acquitted of the charges.

According to The Times, Spacey failed to file a full defense of the case earlier this year, which his representative Adam Speker KC called a “genuine mistake on his part.”

This reportedly led to a default judgment, but that was overturned by the judge yesterday, meaning there will be a civil trial.

Claire Glasgow, from law firm Fieldfisher, which is representing the alleged victim, told the newspaper: “We are pleased that the judge has recognized the seriousness of the claim and has directed the court to proceed to trial.”

“Our client is seeking justice in the civil courts for serious allegations against Mr. Spacey, regardless of the outcome of the criminal case.”

The announcement of the civil case comes just days after the release of a bombshell Channel 4 documentary entitled Spacey Unmasked.

In it, ten men make allegations against the fallen Hollywood star, which Spacey described as “ridiculous” and “completely offensive”.

Among the claims was that Spacey pleasured himself in front of an aspiring actor, a former US Marine, while watching the traumatic opening sequence of Saving Private Ryan.

Spacey won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1995 for his role as Roger “Verbal” Kint in “The Usual Suspects.”

Another said he exposed himself to an intern in a bar bathroom and placed his hand on a fellow actor’s penis on the set of the hit TV series House Of Cards.

A third claimed Spacey pushed his groin into the face of an employee at the Old Vic Theater in London during a performance of the pantomime Cinderella.

Spacey has argued that he was “not provided sufficient time and detail to respond to the testimony in the film.”

“I have consistently denied and now successfully defended numerous criminal and civil allegations made in both the US and the UK. Each time I was able to obtain evidence to support the allegations and a jury of my peers believed them.”‘

Continuing his battle against the barrage of allegations, he also took part in a 95-minute interview with former GB News presenter Dan Wotton, in which he stated that he would “no longer be speechless” over the allegations.

MailOnline has contacted Spacey about the civil case.
