STORMtracker alarm Thursday night and Friday morning; High risk of currents this week

(WALA) – We will be in STORMtracker alert mode overnight from Thursday evening into Friday morning. A very unstable air mass and a late season cool front pose the risk of severe thunderstorms. The main threats are gusty winds and small to medium sized hail. The Storm Prediction Center’s current rating is 2 out of 5 for a slight risk.

The risk of rip currents on our region’s beaches will be very high through Friday. Strong tidal fluctuations and a gusty southerly wind increase the risk of dangerous currents. Coastal waters will continue to be very rough as a minor boat warning is in effect.

Milder weather is expected this weekend. Daily highs will be in the low 80s. Nights will be mild with lows around 60°C. The chance of rain is low on Saturday and Mother’s Day on Sunday.
