‘Quality of life issues’ lead to arrest of 81-year-old ‘serial slingshot shooter’ in Southern California: Police

A man police described as a “serial slingshot shooter” was arrested after investigations revealed he had been shooting people for nearly a decade.

According to a social media post from Azusa Police, officers from their Direct Enforcement Unit (DEU) learned of a “quality of life issue” that occurred in the 900 block of North Enid Avenue on Friday. The exact time of the incident was not immediately disclosed.

“The DEU conducted a lengthy investigation and learned that over the course of nine to ten years, dozens of citizens were victims of a serial slingshot shooter,” the department’s Instagram post said. “The unknown perpetrator smashed windows and windshields and nearly hit people with ball bearings.”

After obtaining a search warrant for a home in the neighborhood where the incidents occurred, authorities arrested Prince King of Azusa. During the search, ball bearings and a slingshot were seized from King’s residence, police officials said.

Inmate records show King, 81, has been charged with a felony and is being held without bail at Men’s Central Jail.

Several people immediately commented on the police department’s post, claiming that King had shot her dog with ball bearings in the past and appeared to “primarily chase away unwanted squatters.”
