Fort Worth police and city government are investigating arrest for alleged excessive use of force after a video of the incident was shared online

FORT WORTH — Fort Worth police are investigating an officer’s use of force after a video of the incident was shared online. The incident attracted so much attention that city leaders are now looking into it. A council member called for the release of bodycam video of the incident.

Carolyn Rodriguez’s YouTube page features dozens of interactions with police officers.

She says she is recording the footage to raise awareness of what she calls “the out-of-control criminal justice system.” That video has been viewed tens of thousands of times.

Fort Worth police said officers were investigating a hit-and-run while under the influence of alcohol when Rodriguez approached them.

A police officer can be heard telling her to cross the street or she will be arrested.

“What are you talking about?” she replied. “First tell me why.”

Police said an officer used force during Rodriguez’s arrest, which led to her being taken to the hospital.

After receiving medical treatment, Rodriguez was booked into the Tarrant County Jail. She was charged with multiple counts, including resisting arrest and evading arrest. Her mug shot shows a black eye.

The use of violence is being investigated by the police.

“We’ve received so many emails,” said Fort Worth City Councilman Chris Nettles. “From all the council members.”

Nettles is now calling this alarming and calling for the release of police bodycam video of the incident. He says that as far as he can tell, Rodriguez’s video “is not in the same tone as the Fort Worth police report… I think it’s important to reassure the city by releasing this footage.”

Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker called a special meeting for Friday to discuss the incident.

We spoke to Police Commissioner Neil Noakes, who said the department should have an update on its investigation within the next 24 hours.
