A 26-year-old man from Lambeth has been shot dead by police for the first time

The man shot dead in Lambeth has been named for the first time. Jazmel Dashourn Patterson-Low, 26, from Lambeth, was shot dead on the Westbury Estate in St Rule Street, Nine Elms, last weekend.

He was dropped off in a private car at St Thomas’ Hospital just before 2.30am on Saturday 11 May, but was pronounced dead just before 3am. An autopsy was conducted on Sunday, May 12, and revealed the cause of death to be a single gunshot wound.

Detectives from the Met’s Special Crime Squad are leading the murder investigation. There were no arrests. Police said the car that took him to the hospital has been found and is relevant to the investigation.

Crime specialist Detective Inspector Martin Thorpe said: “Around 40 people had gathered in and around St Rule Street on Friday evening and the early hours of Saturday. Apparently an argument quickly broke out after 2 a.m. and shots were fired.

“I am very grateful to everyone who has already come forward with information. In addition to CCTV and forensic investigations, this has created numerous areas of investigation that detectives are working around the clock to develop.

“I’m sure there are other people who know what happened on St. Rule Street and who was responsible for the shooting. I urge you to come forward and share this information.

“If you do not want to speak to the police you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously. Some people have already done this – I don’t know who they are, but I have their information and I thank them.”

Detective Chief Superintendent Seb Adjei-Addoh, the senior officer in charge of policing in Lambeth, said: “I have been in contact with locals and partners in Lambeth since Saturday morning. We are all horrified by Jazmel’s brutal murder and are working together to protect and support the community.

“Jazmel’s family deserves answers. Dedicated police officers, including specialists from across the Met, are determined to do everything they can – to bring whoever killed Jazmel to justice and protect the community by getting his killer off the streets.

“But we still need more help from the local community to achieve these important goals. If you have important information – if you know who fired this weapon – please come forward and share that information now.”

Anyone with information or footage is asked to call police on 101 and quote reference number 884/11May. Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
