Woman arrested in connection with murder in December 2022

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department has arrested a woman in connection with the December 2022 death of 47-year-old James Milton Jr. in northeast Indianapolis.

Montez Craig, 40, was found dead Monday in the 6100 block of N. Keystone Ave., according to a department news release. arrested.


On December 11, 2022, officers from the department’s North District conducted a welfare check in the 3600 block of North Lasalle Street. The release said when officers arrived, they found a man, later identified as Milton, in a vehicle whose injuries were “consistent with trauma.” Milton was pronounced dead at the scene.

While officers investigated the incident, IMPD identified and arrested Craig as a person of interest in the case. The news release said Craig was released pending further investigation. On Friday, Craig was charged with murder and taken into custody on Monday.

Once Craig was in custody, IMPD reportedly conducted a separate investigation into her and a man she was dating at the time, identified by police as 42-year-old Julian Lee. The release states that an outdoor K9 sniffed the vehicle Craig and Lee were in, and officers later found cocaine and marijuana, as well as evidence of drug trafficking.

The press release states that Craig and Lee were arrested for trafficking and possession of cocaine and trafficking and possession of marijuana.
