Man arrested and accused of attacking pregnant woman and causing fetal death

A man on the run after attacking a Karnes County woman that resulted in the death of her unborn child has been arrested.

Carlos Carrasco was arrested Saturday in Jacksboro, a community about 100 miles northeast of Dallas.

According to the Karnes County Sheriff’s Office, officers were dispatched to a home on County Road 210 on May 20 for a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers found that Carrasco had assaulted his “significant other,” who was pregnant and in need of medical attention.

The woman was taken to Guadalupe Regional Medical Center in Seguin, where her unborn baby died, sheriff’s officials said.

Carrasco was arrested that same day on separate counts of domestic violence, but days later an investigation revealed that Carrasco intentionally attacked the woman with the intent to kill the unborn child, sheriff’s officials said.

The suspect had already been released from jail on bail and fled the area when a new arrest warrant for attempted capital crime was issued against Carrasco.

With the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service, Carrasco was arrested on July 13.

He was extradited to Karnes County, where he was indicted by a grand jury on several charges, including attempted capital crimes.
