Jamestown Police Remember Officer Ryan Bourque on the 8th Anniversary of His Death

The Jamestown Police Department remembers Officer Ryan Bourque today on March 8thTh anniversary of his death. On May 23, 2016, Bourque was tragically killed by an impaired wrong-way driver on Route 95 as Ryan was driving home from work.

With a busy holiday weekend approaching, Jamestown Police say in a press release that additional patrols will be deployed in Jamestown and throughout the state to prevent another unnecessary tragedy.

“We are thinking about Ryan and his family and we know other departments are too. Our neighbors in Newport and North Kingstown will be setting up additional patrols to watch for drunk drivers,” said James Campbell, Jamestown Police Chief. “Our goal is simple: to prevent tragedies like the accident that took Ryan’s life.”

Colonel Bradford Connor, president of the Rhode Island Chiefs Association and chief of the Warwick Police Department, said: “Our message is consistent – if you plan to celebrate, make a plan. Designate a sober driver, call for a ride, or stay where you are. Whether you consume alcohol, drugs or a mixture of both, all of them together affect your performance.”

Jamestown Police are working with Providence Police and the RIDOT Office of Highway Safety to bring the BAT (Breath Alcohol Testing) Mobile to Jamestown. The BAT Mobile is a mobile operations center used to process individuals arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and serves as a highly visible educational tool. The BAT Mobile and targeted enforcement activities are funded through grants from the RIDOT Office of Highway Safety.
