Decisive action in Sidhi, Madhya Pradesh: Administration razes house of rape suspect | Crime News

Prajapati, 30, was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting at least seven young women. He posed as a university professor and lured them with the promise of scholarships.

New Delhi: In a decisive move, authorities in Sidhi district of the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh have taken a firm stand against a heinous crime. The house of Brajesh Prajapati, the prime suspect in a series of sexual assaults, has been razed to the ground by the administration, signalling a crackdown against the accused and his accomplices.

Prajapati, 30, was arrested for allegedly sexually abusing at least seven young women. He had posed as a college professor to lure them with the promise of scholarships. The victims, mostly tribals, were deceived by Prajapati using a voice-changing application to carry out his predatory plan.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has ordered a thorough probe by a Special Investigation Team (SIT), while Prajapati’s illegally constructed residence was demolished after his arrest. In addition, three of Prajapati’s associates were arrested while police have recovered 16 mobile phones related to the crimes, said Rewa Range Inspector General (IG) Mahendra Singh Sikarwar.

The modus operandi was that Prajapati contacted students under the pretext of offering scholarships and later committed the assaults. The police’s thorough investigation revealed obvious burn marks on Prajapati’s hands, which led to his arrest.

Although Prajapati has confessed to the crime, police suspect that there may be more crimes as the investigation is ongoing. The involvement of his accomplices, including a college student who obtained the victims’ contact details from a WhatsApp group, is still being investigated.

The legal proceedings began with the registration of several cases against Prajapati and his accomplices, including rape, kidnapping, assault and robbery. The SIT headed by Roshni Singh Thakur is expected to submit its findings soon.

The chief minister has condemned the acts and threatened severe punishment for those responsible. The opposition, represented by Congress MP Kamal Nath, has demanded a full investigation, highlighted the alarming record of crimes against tribal women in the state and called for support for the survivors.
