Two motorcyclists hospitalised, third arrested for fleeing police after accident in Bristol

BRISTOL, RI (WLNE) — Two motorcyclists were injured and a third arrested following a crash in Bristol late Monday night.

Bristol police said 24-year-old Jacob Mazza fled from police after an accident at the intersection of Metacom Avenue and Annawamscutt Avenue.

Police said officers responded to reports of a motorcycle crash at approximately 10:40 p.m. and found that two motorcycles were involved in the crash. Authorities believe it was an incident of driving aggression.

According to authorities, both drivers were taken to Rhode Island Hospital with injuries; their condition is currently unknown.

While police were conducting their investigation, Mazza, who authorities believe is connected to the original accident, rode his motorcycle through the accident scene.

Officials said Mazza ignored officers’ orders and sped down Metacom Avenue before losing control and crashing a short distance away.

According to police, Mazza was treated for minor injuries at Rhode Island Hospital and later arraigned by a bail bondsman.

According to authorities, he is facing the following charges:

  • Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
  • Refusal to undergo a chemical test
  • Escaping the police at high speed
  • Obstructing an official in the performance of his duty

Mazza was released and is scheduled to appear in District Court on July 12.
