Kerala professor arrested for sexually harassing woman at amusement park

The incident occurred when the woman was at the wave pool at the amusement park.

Kannur, Kerala:

An assistant professor of the Central University of Kerala was arrested for allegedly sexually harassing a woman at an amusement park in the district, police said today.

The accused, Efthikar Ahamed B, who teaches English at the Central University in neighboring Kasaragod, was caught red-handed at the Vismaya amusement park on Monday after the woman lodged a complaint.

He was remanded by a local court and sent to prison, police said.

The incident occurred when the 22-year-old complainant and her family members were spending time in the wave pool of the amusement park.

“At first the woman believed that the professor’s behavior was a mistake. But when he repeated the same misconduct, she reacted publicly against him,” a police officer said.

Based on the information received, Taliparamba police rushed to the park and collected details.

The woman stood by her statement and filed a complaint against Ahamed, who was soon taken into custody and his arrest was later recorded, police said.

The sections imposed on Ahamed include IPC sections 354 (outraging the modesty of women) and 354 A (sexual harassment).

Police said Ahamed had already faced similar sexual harassment complaints from a Central University student.

He had been suspended from the university for some time due to a case registered by the Bakel police last year. He recently returned to work after the university lifted the suspension.
