Water activities around Kradan Island are suspended to save corals

Hat Chao Mai National Park will suspend aquatic activities, including snorkeling, near the coral reef off Kradan Island in Trang Province from Wednesday due to increased coral bleaching.

The suspension comes out of concern that the activity could accelerate coral bleaching and will continue until the situation eases, according to the park administration. Tourists can continue to enjoy activities outside the areas where such leisure activities are suspended.

Meanwhile a Thai PBS The team, along with environmental expert Thon Thamrongnawasawat, studied coral bleaching off the southern coast of Man Island in Rayong province and found that more than 80% of corals there are bleaching.

Thon said the seawater temperature continued to rise above 30°COC and the rain only help to lower the temperature slightly. If coral bleaching continues, it will impact marine ecosystems and fisheries, as corals are the habitat of numerous marine species, Thon said.
