Motorcyclist dead after 5 vehicle crash

The California Highway Patrol is investigating a five-vehicle crash that left one person dead Sunday morning. CHP said at approximately 5:52 a.m., a black Ford F-150 was driven northbound on Highway 1 south of Carpenter Street by a 17-year-old male driver. For an unknown reason, the truck crashed into a utility pole on the west side of the road after the driver crossed the southbound lane, according to the CHP. The impact caused the pole and wires to fall across all lanes of traffic. According to the CHP, four other vehicles crashed because the pole and wires blocked the road. All vehicles were traveling southbound when the accident occurred. The final vehicle was a red and black Honda CBR1000 motorcycle driven by a 44-year-old man from Seaside, CHP said. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The 17-year-old man was handed over to his parents. CHP is still investigating whether drugs or alcohol were responsible for the crash.
