Tyson Fury suspended from boxing after defeat to Oleksandr Usyk

Fury was beaten on points by Usyk last weekend when he lost the undisputed heavyweight world title fight in Saudi Arabia.

Tyson Fury has been suspended from boxing for a week following his loss to Oleksandr Usyk last weekend.

Fury lost to his rival on points to lose the fight for the undisputed heavyweight world title in Saudi Arabia. Usyk has been suspended until June 2 and Fury has now been ridiculously told by the United Arab Emirates Boxing Commission, which oversaw the fight, that he is not allowed to fight until this weekend.

The news comes after Fury made it clear he wants to face Usyk again in their agreed rematch in Riyadh in October. And his promoter Frank Warren says the second fight will be announced in due course.

Queensbury promoter Warren said a second fight between the two fighters would be confirmed soon, and it was better than last week’s classic. Announcing Queensbury’s Magnificent Seven card on July 20, Warren told the PA news agency: “There will be a rematch and that will be confirmed and announced in due course.”

“I think it will be better than the original fight. They both know each other, they have shared the ring and they will try to use what they gained from the fight as an advantage to beat their opponent.”

Usyk handed Fury his first professional loss, but Warren believes the “Gypsy King” already has a long tradition in boxing that a win against Usyk, who has won all 22 of his fights, would further cement. “I think his tradition is there,” he said. “Of course he wants to win and he has to win. He just wants the rematch because he believes he can win. He believes in himself and it would cement his tradition.”

“Everyone out there thinks Usyk is the best, so let’s see what Tyson does. He called me and said he wanted the rematch, so here we are.” Warren, who signed Fury ahead of his 2018 comeback, predicts his fighter will get it done the second time around.

When asked why Fury would win the rematch, Warren said: “He’s a fighter, that’s what he brings to the ring. He’s been caught a few times in his last fights but he gets up and shows what he’s made of. I don’t want that to happen. But like Usyk, he’s very similar, they’re very nice guys who know boxing and I have confidence in Tyson. This fight took a lot out of both of them so we’ll see.”
