One dead in rollover crash in Placer County, CHP reports

A two-vehicle rollover crash in Placer County left a man dead Monday, the California Highway Patrol said. Officials said the deceased driver drove over the double yellow lines while attempting to pass another driver who was turning left. The crash occurred just before 1 p.m. on Baseline Road near South Brewer Road. A driver in a Volvo XC90 had slowed and stopped the vehicle as he attempted to turn left into a private driveway, the CHP said. Several other vehicles came to a stop behind his vehicle. The CHP said a driver in a Nissan Rogue was traveling at a high rate of speed toward the stationary vehicles and then drove over the solid double yellow lines and moved into the oncoming lane to pass the stationary vehicles. As the driver in the Volvo was turning left, the driver in the Nissan collided with the Volvo, the CHP said. The Nissan then left the roadway and rolled several times. The driver of the Nissan was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. He died of his injuries. The driver of the Volvo was uninjured. A man was killed in a two-vehicle rollover crash in Placer County on Monday, the California Highway Patrol said.

Officials said the deceased driver crossed the double yellow line while attempting to pass another driver who was turning left.

The accident occurred shortly before 1 p.m. on Baseline Road near South Brewer Road.

A driver in a Volvo XC90 slowed down and stopped as he attempted to turn left into a private driveway, CHP said. Several other vehicles slowed down and stopped behind his vehicle.

According to the CHP, a driver in a Nissan Rogue approached the stopped vehicles at a high rate of speed and then crossed the solid double yellow line to enter the oncoming lane and overtake the stopped vehicles.

When the driver of the Volvo attempted to turn left, the driver of the Nissan collided with the Volvo, according to CHP. The Nissan then left the road and rolled over several times.

The driver of the Nissan was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the vehicle. He succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the Volvo was uninjured.

Officials have not yet been able to determine the identity of the deceased driver, but he was a 23-year-old man from Rocklin.
