During a welfare check, officers were attacked by dogs and then by the homeowner

On Friday, June 14, Ogle County officials responded to a welfare check in the 7000 block of E Grist Mill RD.

When officers arrived at the home, they were met by several aggressive dogs that attacked them. At that point, the homeowner, later identified as 62-year-old Richard L. Eraas of Chana, came out of the garage and began yelling at officers.

Eraas lunged at one of the officers and attacked him. Eraas was arrested and taken to the Ogle County Jail.

Eraas received a summons for aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. Oregon Fire/Ems assisted the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office.
