Driver dies in La Salle County crash after fleeing traffic stop, police say – Shaw Local

A motorist died Monday morning after fleeing from a deputy in a vehicle that had been reported stolen, according to the La Salle County Sheriff’s Office.

On Monday morning, at approximately 6:42 a.m., deputies with the La Salle County Sheriff’s Office observed a vehicle that had been reported stolen in La Salle, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

When a deputy attempted to make a traffic stop, the vehicle began to flee, the sheriff’s office said. During the escape, the vehicle left the roadway and caused an accident.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver and the only passenger were thrown from the vehicle.

“Officers began assisting the driver and requested that medical personnel be dispatched to the scene,” the sheriff’s press release said.

The driver of the vehicle died at the scene. The La Salle County Sheriff’s Office requested that the Illinois State Police investigate the accident. The investigation is ongoing.
