RAMONA, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) – A motorcyclist was killed in a crash in Ramona on Friday, authorities said.

The collision occurred around 2:30 p.m. on 3rd Street, north of G Street, Officer Jared Grieshaber of the California Highway Patrol said in a news release Monday.

A 24-year-old Ramona man was traveling southbound on a 2015 Triumph motorcycle at a high rate of speed at the above location when the rider lost control of the motorcycle, causing it to roll over, authorities said. The accident caused both the rider and the motorcycle to veer off the road and land at the bottom of a drainage ditch made of rocks and concrete.

CHP confirmed that the driver, who was wearing a helmet at the time, was taken to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Authorities are currently investigating whether drunk driving was a cause of the accident.
