Ponce’s arrival is a renewed hope for Dynamo, who have scored only 20 goals this season, the fewest in the Western Conference. It is hoped that this new arrival will help improve this statistic and strengthen the team’s attack, which already includes talented midfielders Héctor Herrera and Coco Carrasquilla. The goal is to build on the success of last season, when the team reached the Western Conference Finals and won the U.S. Cup.

Ponce brings with him a wealth of experience in high-level competitions. Last season he scored 14 goals in 29 games, almost a goal per game. Capable of playing both outside and in the center, the Argentinian is a key player in attack and should fit perfectly into Dynamo’s tactical scheme.

Houston Dynamo general manager Pat Onstad expressed his excitement over the signing, highlighting the extensive global search for a new top-choice striker: “Ezequiel was our number one target. He has the experience to score goals in the biggest competitions in the world and fits perfectly into our game. “his model, his character and his professionalism are exemplary,” Onstad said in a statement.

Ponce will be available to make his debut for the team when the MLS secondary transfer window opens on July 18. Expectations surrounding his debut are high, especially considering Dynamo’s urgent need to improve their offensive performance.

The Houston Dynamo, currently seventh in the Western Conference with 23 points, hopes that Ponce’s arrival will mark the start of an ascending phase in the league. The signing of the Argentine striker is a clear sign that the club is determined to evolve in order to reach new heights in MLS.
