15 Fury Alert Days this week due to extreme heat

The Live Doppler 15 Fury Storm Team has issued several 15 Fury Warning days this week. They are in effect starting Monday evening through Friday across northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio. Remember, these days are reserved for the days with the most severe weather events.

We have these warning days because a dangerous combination of heat and humidity is persisting for a long period of time. A heat warning has been issued for part of the area until 8 p.m. Friday. Our other counties not included in the warning have a heat warning in effect until 8 p.m. Tuesday. This is because these northwestern counties are expected to see more clouds and possibly more rain/storms through Tuesday, causing the feels like temperatures in these areas to not be quite as high.

However, these counties may be under a heat warning after Tuesday. We expect the heat index values to be around 100 degrees at times. This is because highs will be in the 90s and humidity will reach tropical levels.

According to the National Weather Service Northern Indiana, a heat warning is typically issued when our heat index readings are greater than or equal to 105° for a 48-hour period. However, the long duration of heat index readings from 95° to about 100° and the fact that it is early in the summer are the reasons this heat warning is in effect for part of our region. The lack of relief from the heat and humidity at night is another reason the warning is in effect and why we have 15-day heat warnings in effect for several days.
