One man dead, another injured in stabbing on Staten Island

One man was killed and another injured in a stabbing in Staten Island on Monday, police and sources said.

The men, aged 41 and 37, got into a fight shortly after 3:45 p.m. at the corner of Broad and Gordon streets in front of the Island Food Market in Stapleton Heights, they added.

Both men, armed with knives, struck each other until the older man was eventually stabbed in the chest and the younger man in the leg, the sources said.

Paramedics rushed the 41-year-old man to Staten Island University Hospital, but he could not be saved.

The younger man was taken to Richmond University Medical Center, where he is expected to survive his injuries.

The elderly man’s name was not released while police worked to notify his family of his death.

There were no immediate arrests.
