Speeding probably a factor in two fatal accidents in Starks

STARKS, Louisiana (KPLC) – Police believe speeding was a factor in two fatal crashes that occurred in Starks on Sunday, June 16.

Kayla Vincent, spokeswoman for the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office, said officers were called to a car crash on Green Moore Road near Doyle Cemetery Road around 3 a.m. They learned that Shawn D. Dreyer, 21, of Orange, Texas, was driving north on Green Moore Road when his truck crossed the center line, left the road and struck a tree.

Dreyer died at the scene of the accident.

The truck’s passenger was seriously injured and flown by helicopter to a local hospital, where he is reportedly in critical condition.

Later that same day, around 1 p.m., officers responded to another crash involving a motorcycle on Green Island Road in Starks.

The driver of the motorcycle, Rick J. Hampton, 37, of Orange, Texas, was rounding a curve when he left the road and was thrown from his motorcycle.

Hampton was also pronounced dead at the scene.

Vincent said both deaths were still under investigation and standard toxicology reports were being prepared.
