Baltimore police identified a woman killed in a dog attack Friday night, while the investigation is ongoing. Some residents told 11 News they are nervous and afraid to go outside. They sent their condolences to the family of 54-year-old Sheila Jones, who died after being attacked by two pit bulls Friday. A 67-year-old woman and a 42-year-old man who were also bitten by the dogs are recovering from their injuries. “People are not OK with the dogs running around here like that. They scare everyone,” said Valerie Lee, a resident. “It’s just devastating to the neighborhood. Our kids play, and we build community gardens here and stuff like that, and I wonder if … there are a lot of questions,” one resident told 11 News. Jones lived near where she was attacked, at the corner of North Pulaski Street and Clifton Avenue in the Mondawmin neighborhood. Two officers fired their weapons, hitting one of the dogs, who had to be euthanized due to the severity of his injuries. The other dog remains in the care of animal control. “The officers were able to locate the dogs and fired their weapons, hitting one of the dogs. He was taken away by animal control,” Baltimore Police Detective Vernon Jones said. A resident who wished to remain anonymous said the dogs appeared out of nowhere. She stood there in horror as they mauled Jones and another woman. She said she was too frightened to move. “I was in my house and I heard the helicopter say, ‘Everybody please stay home.’ And then the next thing I remember was seeing a lot of flashing lights,” said Charline Marshall, a resident. “It’s sad, it’s really sad. If you know who the dog belongs to, he needs to be held accountable for this murder.” Police said they are still trying to determine who the dogs might belong to and they are working with the district attorney to determine possible charges.

“People don’t feel good when the dogs run around like that. They scare everyone,” said Valerie Lee, a local resident.
