No bail for suspect brandishing box cutter in Crystal City incident

On May 7 at 3:11 p.m., two men were walking in the area of ​​18th Street South at South Bell Street when a man approached, brandished a box cutter and attempted to steal a bag from one of them, Arlington police said with.

The second person confronted the suspect and was threatened with a box cutter before the suspect fled the scene on foot, police said.

A lookout was dispatched and responding officers located a person matching the suspect’s description in the area, police said.

The suspect was non-compliant but was taken into custody with the assistance of additional officers, police said. While in custody, the suspect kicked one officer and spat at another, police said.

A box cutter was recovered during the investigation.

The suspect – 44-year-old Oi Young of the District of Columbia – was arrested and charged with assault on police (two counts), attempted malicious wounding, attempted robbery and obstruction of justice. He was held without bond.
