Dead vehicle batteries are the biggest problem in high temperatures, according to AAA – WPXI

Typically, this is thought to be a cold weather problem, but according to AAA, a dead battery is the number one problem in hot temperatures.

It’s summer and that means there are more vehicles on the roads heading to holiday destinations.

But this week, the Pittsburgh area is experiencing a dangerous heat wave.

Heat is the most common cause of battery failure and shortened battery life.

“Many people think that winter is bad for the battery, that winter kills the battery. In reality, it’s the heat of the summer sun that destroys and breaks the internal components of the car battery,” said Jim Garrity of AAA. “So it’s actually the heat that does the most damage to your battery.”

Garrity recommends having the battery checked by a professional before setting off.
