Montgomery County Police have released additional information about a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred in Takoma Park on June 3.
The press release states: “Detectives with the Montgomery County Department of Police Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred on Monday, June 3, 2024.

At approximately 1:17 p.m., Takoma Park Police and Montgomery County Firefighters responded to the 1100 block of University Boulevard East for a report of a man lying in the roadway with head injuries. Officers found the victim in the eastbound lanes of University Boulevard East and transported him to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The deceased was identified as 42-year-old Candido Noe Rojas Rojas of Takoma Park.

The Office of the Medical Examiner Washington, DC conducted an autopsy and determined the victim’s injuries were likely caused by a vehicle. Detectives’ preliminary investigation revealed that a westbound vehicle struck the pedestrian and fled the scene on Lebanon St. toward Prince George’s County. After reviewing additional video evidence, detectives have obtained a more accurate description of the suspect’s vehicle, which is believed to be a dark colored, possibly black, 2014-2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. Any damage to the vehicle was noted on the left side and appears to be minor. This is an active and ongoing investigation.
