Gordon Ramsay’s bicycle accident: “Lucky to be alive”

Gordon Ramsay says he is grateful to be alive but is shaken after his recent bicycle accident in Connecticut.

The famous TV chef said in a video posted on his Instagram page over the weekend that he had “had a really bad accident” that had “really shaken him up”.

“Honestly, I’m lucky to be here,” he said, before thanking the “incredible” trauma surgeons, doctors and nurses who cared for him.

In the caption, he wrote that he was now “doing well” and had not broken any bones or sustained any major injuries, but that he was “a bit bruised and looked like a purple potato.”

At one point in the video, the “Hell’s Kitchen” star lifts up his white chef’s jacket and reveals a huge bruise on his torso.

“I’m lucky to be standing here,” said Ramsay, an avid cyclist and triathlon competitor. “I’m in pain, it’s been a brutal week and I’m getting through it somehow, but I can’t tell you how important it is to wear a helmet.”

He said he believed the helmet “saved his life.”

CNN has reached out to a representative for Ramsay for comment.
